This world evolves with interesting incidents that keep us away from getting bored. Some incidents never fail to surprise us. Here is one such incident that has a deeper meaning to it than we see from the outside.
This is the story of 72-year-old Sam Kaplan, and it makes us, the readers, realise that age is just a number if you have the will to achieve your goal. It is incredible news that the hero of our story recently obtained his undergraduate degree, more than 50 years after finishing high school. It is indeed an incredible achievement in such an age.
Sam Kaplan is the first of his seven siblings to receive a bachelor’s degree. He graduated from Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The other most adoring and surprising part of this story is that his 99-year-old mother was with him to witness her son’s success. How beautiful and emotionally moving that is!
Sam Kalpan before taking up his education journey was engaged in different careers. He started with a cleaning business and then later established himself as a telemarketing firm which he continued successfully for some time. Also,o he worked as a cab driver and a customer service representative. Then, along with all the career opportunities he had experienced, he decided to try his luck in obtaining a higher educational qualification. At the age of 68 Sam returned to school after decades.
He found this opportunity from a news post on the radio that Georgia Gwinnett College was offering a scriptwriting degree. So he decided to hit the opportunity to give it a try.

It was indeed after a very long time that Sam returned to a classroom. Getting adjusted to that environment was not easy. He has to relearn how to focus on his studies and how to study. Sam also felt nervous to fit into a classroom where his classmates are much younger; almost half of his age. But he was able to overcome all his fears and challenges. The secret was simple and successful. He was able to set daily goals and build connections with his friends and peers. He allocated enough time to get to know his friends and fellow students in the classroom and the academic environment. This made him form strong bonds with his classmates.
Sam’s journey was adored by his associate professor Kate Balsley who taught some of the lessons at Georgia Gwinnett College. She was so proud of Sam’s accomplishments. She was also thrilled to see how Sam shared his stories and pictures of the interesting life he lives with his family. Not only the teacher but the college community was also thrilled about Sam’s graduation and they all will miss him dearly.
