A few months back, a few images of a poor little puppy whose mouth was bound with a fishing line, shared across the internet and social media. It got the attention of millions of people around the world with good hearts. She was really lucky to be in the right place at the right time. If you have no idea about this incident and if you are willing to know, in this article I’m going to bring you the full story of “Lucy”, who was found and rescued by Mission Paws’ible group in Bali.
Little Lucy’s survival is nothing short of a miracle. Rescued approximately around May 2021, Lucy was discovered at a construction site in Bali, a place where a huge number of dogs had mysteriously disappeared. When her rescuer found her, Lucy was in a state of shock. A fishing wire was cruelly bound around her snout, an alarming indication that she had fallen victim to the dog meat trade, destined to be sold and slaughtered for consumption. Responding promptly, Lucy’s rescuer rushed her to a veterinary clinic for vital medical attention.
Even though Lucy found herself in a secure environment, her challenges were far from over. She was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease called parvovirus, with veterinarians offering her only a 50/50 chance of survival. It was a critical period for a few days, but after two weeks, Lucy gradually began displaying signs of improvement and was deemed well enough to be placed in foster care. Unfortunately, just after a day, she started exhibiting unusual behavior and tested positive for distemper. It is an additional ordeal on top of her existing struggles. Despite her strength, the odds seemed against her. The parvovirus had severely compromised her immune system, and she was already skin and bones when she was discovered.
But she displayed incredible strength. Even though she had a lack of appetite, the rescue team had syringe-fed her bone broth every few hours, pouring all the affection and attention we could into her care. Gradually, Lucy began to regain her physical strength, marking a significant triumph. Now, it was time to commence her journey of emotional healing. Right from her rescue, she remained reticent and avoided any eye contact. She would curl up in a corner of her crate, spending hours there, only coming out for her basic needs. The magnitude of trauma she must have suffered before coming into rescuer’s care was huge and her trust in humans had been completely lost.
