Prince William may be on summer break with Kate Middleton and their children, but that did not stop him from showing support for a local Cornish soccer team that hit a historic milestone. Truro City Football Club shared a special letter from the Prince on X on August 8, sending waves of excitement through fans and players alike.

The letter, delivered via William’s private secretary Ian Patrick, was addressed to team captain Connor Riley-Lowe and signed with William’s Duke of Cornwall title. This gesture gave it extra meaning for the Cornwall-based club.

The Duke of Cornwall sent a letter to Truro City ahead of their home match against York on Saturday, 16 August 2025. The letter began by noting that the team had just returned home after being away for a few years and that, like everyone in Cornwall, Prince William would be cheering them on.

It congratulated the team on their success: “Prince William has asked me to pass on his warmest congratulations on your promotion to the National League as Cornwall’s first professional team.” The note ended with a personal touch: “Good luck to the Tinners,” underlined and signed, “Yours, Ian.” Although short, the message meant a great deal to the team and Cornwall fans.
