Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to pack up their lives at Adelaide Cottage and start fresh at Forest Lodge, a 328-year-old mansion nestled in Windsor Great Park. However, their royal “forever home” has already sparked controversy — because two families had to vacate their houses to make way for the Wales family’s big move.
A recently published report by People.com revealed that the families, who had been living in cottages adjacent to Forest Lodge, were suddenly informed that they had to leave.

They were told to move out. I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move,” one source revealed. “They were not expecting it.
The insider added that the decision was likely about privacy and security:
Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they are not going to want any Tom, Dick, or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there.
The move comes after what many close to them say was a hard time for the Prince and Princess of Wales. In 2022, they relocated to Adelaide Cottage in Berkshire, closer to their children’s school, but their stay in the four-bedroom home was soon marked by sadness. While living there, they went through three significant challenges: the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, and Kate Middleton’s fight with cancer.

Now, for Prince William, the move to Forest Lodge is seen as a chance to heal. He has described it as a fresh start and a new chapter in life—a way to put some of the sadder memories behind him.
What Makes Forest Lodge Truly Special
The historic property dates back more than three centuries and boasts eight bedrooms. It offers more space for William, Kate, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
However, do not expect the couple to live like pampered monarchs just yet. Reports confirm that they will cover all relocation costs and renovation expenses themselves. Even more surprising, the Wales family will not have live-in staff at Forest Lodge, continuing their effort to maintain a more “normal” family lifestyle.
Even with the opportunity for a “fresh start,” the eviction of two families has sparked criticism, highlighting the privileges that come with royal life.
Still, Prince William and Princess Catherine are focused on making Forest Lodge a safe and happy home for their family. After years of public challenges and private hardships, their new house in Windsor Great Park could finally begin the peaceful chapter they have been waiting for..
