Jon Foreman is a 32-year-old artist from Pembrokeshire, Wales. He makes beautiful art using nature. Jon creates his art on beaches using stones, driftwood, sand, leaves, and sometimes even broken glass or ashes. He has made thousands of these artworks around the world.
First, Jon walks along the beach to find stones. He looks for rocks of different sizes, shapes, and colours. Then, on the sand, he arranges them into circles, spirals, and patterns. Sometimes he puts the smallest stones in the middle and the biggest outside. Other times, he arranges them by colour to make them look smooth and natural.
Jon understands stones very nicely. He knows that when stones are wet, their colours look stronger. He also knows how light and shadows enhance the beauty of his designs. Some of his artworks are small and delicate, while others are large and can be seen from a distance.
His art does not last forever. The sea tide, wind, or rain can wash it away in a few hours or days. But Jon likes this. He says, “That’s all part of it.” He knows that nature constantly changes and that beauty does not last forever. This makes his art even more special.
Jon does not only make art on beaches. In forests, he uses leaves, twigs, and moss to create his designs. In abandoned places, he uses broken glass, ashes, and rubbish to make art. No matter what he uses, his goal is always the same – to create something different and meaningful.
Making art helps Jon feel calm and happy. He says it is like therapy because while making art, he forgets about all his worries. Many people love his work. On Instagram, his page @sculpttheworld has hundreds of thousands of followers who enjoy seeing his peaceful nature art.
Big brands like Burberry have asked Jon to create art for them. He has also made artwork for popular projects like House of the Dragon. But for Jon, the best part is making art in nature – on a beach, in a forest, or even in an old city space – and knowing that his art will go back to nature again.
Next time you go to a beach or forest, try picking up some stones, leaves, or shells and arranging them into a small circle or spiral.
