Alex McCurry never expected that having a baby would make her internet famous. But when her 3-year-old daughter was born with bright blonde hair and blue eyes, everything changed.

Alex is a Black woman married to Rob, who is white. Their youngest daughter, whom they call “Pudge Pudge,” looks very different from her older siblings. She has platinum blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and fair skin that she got from her dad’s side of the family.

The surprises started right in the delivery room. After going through IVF to get pregnant, Alex had a C-section to deliver Pudge Pudge. Even her husband was shocked when he saw their new baby.
“My husband was trying to stay calm, but I could hear him asking for a paternity test,” Alex said. “I thought maybe there had been a mistake with the IVF process.”

They got the paternity test, and it proved what they already knew deep down – Pudge Pudge was definitely their daughter. Sometimes genetics just works in surprising ways.

But the real problems started when Alex began posting family photos on social media. Strangers started leaving mean comments, questioning whether Pudge Pudge was really her child. Some people even suggested that her husband had cheated on her.

“People would say my husband cheated on me,” Alex explained. “I’d tell them, ‘Yes, he cheated and got me pregnant with his cheating baby.'” She tries to use humour to deal with the hurtful comments.

The online criticism was bad enough, but things got worse when they went out in public. The first time it happened, a stranger complimented Alex on being “such a great nanny” to her own daughter.

“I just said, ‘I’m her mom,'” Alex remembered. That moment inspired her to make a TikTok video explaining how genetics work in mixed-race families.

Other incidents followed that were even more upsetting. Once, a woman followed Alex and her friend through an entire grocery store because she thought they had kidnapped someone else’s child.

“At first I thought, ‘Who would steal a baby? Do you know how stressful kids are? Alex joked. “But then I realised this exposed people’s racial biases.”

Alex has two older children, too – 8-year-old “Chub Chub” and 6-year-old “Bubba.” She’s working hard to prepare all her kids for a world that sometimes doesn’t understand mixed families. She plays music that celebrates their heritage and talks to them about being proud of who they are.

Alex’s story has touched thousands of parents who face similar situations. People praise her for staying patient instead of getting angry when strangers make rude comments.

“I’m only one person and I’m tired,” she admits. “But other parents know it’s nearly impossible to keep up with three active kids while also educating the world.”

Despite all the challenges, Alex keeps sharing her family’s story online. She wants people to understand that families come in all different combinations. What matters isn’t how family members look – it’s the love they share.

Through her social media platform, Alex continues to teach people about acceptance and understanding. She shows that mixed-race families are beautiful and normal, even when genetics create surprising results.

Her daughter Pudge Pudge is growing up knowing she’s loved and wanted, no matter what strangers might think. Alex makes sure of that every day.

The McCurry family proves that love makes a family complete, not genetics. And while Alex gets tired of explaining this to the world, she keeps doing it for her children and for other families like hers.
