Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger poured their hearts into making their daughter Lyla’s 5th birthday a day brimming with love, joy, and mermaids. The couple’s shared sweet tributes, fun family moments, and a glimpse into Lyla’s magical birthday celebration all radiated with the family’s love and joy.
On Wednesday, August 6, proud mom Katherine Schwarzenegger took to Instagram to share a special birthday message for her daughter. The 35-year-old author posted a warm photo of herself holding Lyla and kissing her cheek. In the caption, she wrote:
“Happy 5th birthday to my sweet girl. I love you more than words can say.”
Lyla Maria is the oldest of the couple’s three children. Katherine and Chris also have a 3-year-old daughter named Eloise Christina and an 8-month-old son named Ford Fitzgerald. Chris, who is 46, is also a father to 12-year-old Jack from his previous marriage to actress Anna Faris.
Chris, not to be outdone, also shared his own heartfelt message. On Instagram Stories, he unveiled a six-photo collage capturing special moments with Lyla and the rest of the family. The pictures, including Lyla hugging her little sister, holding hands with Chris, and riding on his shoulders, were all moments that the audience could feel a part of.
He added a heartfelt caption:

The birthday celebration had actually started days earlier. While in New York for the red carpet premiere of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Chris gave fans a hint about the party. He shared that it would have a mermaid theme, because Lyla is really into mermaids these days.
“She’s into mermaids right now,” Chris said with a smile. “She loves to swim. She’s really good at swimming. It’ll be a big party. I think we’re gonna have a petting zoo and real mermaids.”
While in New York, Chris also found time to buy Lyla’s birthday gift. And he didn’t forget her siblings — he picked up something for them, too.
That same day, Chris appeared on the Today show and opened up about being a dad. He shared that he tries to be more emotionally aware as a parent, mainly because he was a sensitive child himself.
“My style is very heavily influenced by how I was raised,” he explained. “I was a very sensitive kid, but my dad was very tough and strict. So I try to be more aware of that sensitivity in kids. I’m not as tough and not as strict.”
Chris also talked about how he and Katherine balance parenting. He called her the “rule enforcer” of the household, adding:
